Despite of having immense growth in development and infrastructure over the last few decades, there is still a big number of people in India that are living in poverty with no house of their own!
India also being the third largest economy (by PPP) today, however it remains a sad fact that for a vast majority of our population, housing is still a luxury let alone access to clean water, proper sanitation and constant electricity supply. India’s urban population registered a decadal growth of 32 percent rising from 285 million to 377 million between 2001 and 2011. The housing stock however failed to match pace, leading to a housing shortage of 2 crore homes. Also, by 2030, the urban population is expected to reach 590 million, calling for a higher number of affordable houses, retail spaces, offices and hotels than ever before.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched many schemes which focuses on financial inclusion, infrastructure development and empowerment of poor peoples, farmers etc.
One such scheme is PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana) to realise “Housing for all” reality by 2022 and it has been the talk of the town ever since.
Through this scheme, the central government aims to build 3 crore homes by the year 2022 to cater to the housing needs of the mid-income group, besides the EWS (Economically weaker section) and LIG(Low-income group).
Launched in the year 2015 with a vision to build affordable houses with water facility, sanitation and electricity supply round-the-clock, Magicrete was more than happy to get on board in 2017, for a motive this meaningful!
Details of the project include constructing a Multi Storey Building including Internal Water supply & sanitary and Internal Electrification for 21 buildings, 252 dwelling units by monolithic eco friendly technology with Infrastructure (road, drain, water supply, sewerage, external electrification etc under HFA scheme)
- What is PMAY?
PMAY, the flagship program, is an initiative provided by the Government of India not only aims at providing affordable housing to the poor and needy but also for coping with the needs of increasing urbanization.
It has two components: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U) for the urban poor and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) (PMAY-R) for the rural poor. This scheme is also converged with varied schemes to ensure that the other needs of people living in the house like electricity, drinking water, banking facilities, road, etc are also available at their doorstep.
Magicrete’s collaboration with PMAY which initiated in 2017, is a 18 months long project in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. More than half way through the project, the outlook of the project looks like this!
Construction Of The Dwelling Units:
These PMAY units are constructed out of monolithic way, made from fly-ash concrete. Fly-ash is is a byproduct from burning pulverized coal in electric power generating plants. It is available in abundance and its use doesn’t harm the environment like the red bricks.
Magicrete which is a pioneer in green building materials was founded with a vision to revolutionize Indian construction Industry and today when it got an opportunity to work for another revolutionising idea PMAY by the Prime Minister himself, we couldn’t have been more happy to work for this cause!
Also, Magicrete have been a flag-bearer of modern construction technology over the last decade. We are a leading player in the AAC blocks industry (an innovative walling material that has transformed the way construction happens across the country). By 2020, the annual demand for walling material is expected to rise to INR 729 billion, and the demand for AAC blocks for walling will increase more vis-à-vis bricks, owing to their superior features and cost-effectiveness. Hence, Magicrete is all set to boost the ‘Housing for All’ mission with its products being used in affordable housing projects across the country and make the coming years brighter for both urban and rural homeowners in India.
Ultimately realising, “Homes for All- A Not So Distant Dream!
